Peer support tool for people living with type 1 diabetes launched
NHS England, Diabetes UK and the JDRF have launched an interactive peer support tool for people living with type 1 diabetes.
Hosted by Diabetes UK, the tool allows people to search a map of England to find a local peer support group.
Peer support, alongside other support, has been shown to help people learn to live with their condition, giving them the confidence, knowledge and support required to manage the complexities of living with a long-term-condition.
If you are an independent peer support group, or aware of a local group, please complete this initial enquiry form with your name and contact email. Groups supporting people living with, and affected by type 1, type 2, gestational and other types of diabetes can register their interest to be added.
Professor Partha Kar, National Specialty Advisor for Diabetes at NHS England, said: “Good chronic disease care sits on the planks of self-management, peer support and access to trained professionals.
“We are delighted to be able to help develop principles and further a network of peer support groups for people living with type 1 diabetes, which encourages people to share ideas and knowledge as the experts living with the condition.”
